Gates tops Forbes rich list, new Aussie debuts

Forbes magazine announced its annual global billionaires list on Tuesday (Australian time) with Microsoft founder Bill Gates top of the pile for the fourth year running.

Gates, who has a fortune of $US86 billion, has now been the richest person in the world for the 18 of the past 23 years.

Mining magnate Gina Rinehart is still Australia’s wealthiest person, valued at $US15 billion, and she had an amazing year, jumping from 127th on the rich list last year to be 69th in this year’s list.

Rinehart was the only Australian featured in the top 100, but she wasn’t the only Aussie making waves.

Shopkins, miniature toys that are incredibly popular with young children, have made a fortune for Australian creator Manny Stul.

Manny Stul made his debut on the prestigious list with an estimated fortune of $US1.4 billion and was one of 33 Australians in total to have made the billionaires list.

What would you do with a billion dollars?
